Paramore’s Hayley Williams announces “special project”

Paramore fans may not be seeing new music in 2020 but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a reason to celebrate.

Frontwoman Hayley Williams, who turned 31 on Dec. 27, took to Twitter to thank her followers for the birthday wishes. She also announced via Notes app that she would be releasing some solo content in the new year.

“I’m putting out some music next year. With the help of some of my closest friends, I made something I’m going to call my own. It’s a really special project and you’ll get a taste of it in January. Happy New Year, friends.”

Paramore has been on a break since 2018 after completing a rigorous touring cycle to support their fifth album, After Laughter. In June 2019, the band shared a muted video of them playing together. However, Williams expressed regret at sharing the video since it caused questions about the band’s future to arise. Since then, the band took to Instagram to share their end-of-the-year musings.

The band later had to clarify via Instagram story that Paramore was not breaking up. “No, it’s not a breakup announcement, weirdos.”

Though Paramore may still be hiatus, Williams is no stranger to running her own enterprises. Since the end of the After Laughter cycle, she’s kept herself busy operating vegan hairdye enterprise Good Dye Young alongside long-time stylist and friend Brian O’Connor.

Though this will be Williams’ first venture as a solo artist, she has appeared on a number of collaborations including B.o.B.’s 2010 in “Airplanes” and Zedd’s “Stay the Night.” Though she didn’t appear on the track, she cameo’d on Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” video, just one in many in a star-studded production.
